The devastating COVID waves led to parents of many students losing their livelihoods and income, while several children lost one or both of their parents. This resulted in many students being unable to deposit their fee in colleges and universities, thereby hampering their education.
As a Senator of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar (“GNDU”), I raised this issue in the meeting of the Senate of GNDU. But due to insufficiency of funds granted by the government, the university was unable to provide relief to the affected students. However, we believe education is the birth right of every child, and to protect this right, the ‘Udaan Education Society’ was formed. This society started functioning on 6th April 2021 and initially provided a scholarship of INR 5,000 each to five needy and brilliant students from Arya Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, Pathankot. Since then, ‘Udaan’ has conducted 12 different events and given scholarships to more than 500 deserving students.
Our children are the future of our nation and to ensure their education is our divine duty. Together, we can do so much more to give these students a better life and a secure future, which is why I humbly appeal to all philanthropists to come forward and donate towards this noble cause. Every contribution will help in transforming a child’s life.
